Peter Davie's Compositions

  1. The 18-6 two-step   midi
  2. 75 not out   midi
  3. Airthrey sunset   midi   in RMP set 4
  4. This tune came to Peter as he walked by Airthrey Loch on Stirling University campus, after watching his grandson play football.

  5. Alison Jane's waltz   midi
  6. A tune, for our first born, written in 1995 and recorded as a set entitled Cherishing the Ladies along with Clare's Christening and Margaret Jane's Waltz by Chapter 4 on the LP Hanging Around Stirling.

  7. Andrew and Ewan   midi
  8. A tune for my 2 grandsons written in 2001- a bit sedate for them now, I think.

  9. Aoife's tune   midi   in RMP set 42
  10. Ardmucknish Bay   midi
  11. The Boy from Timoleague   midi   in RMP set 57
  12. Braes o Doune   midi   in RMP set 5
  13. No relation to Robert Burns' famous Banks and Braes o' Bonnie Doon. The "Braes" referred to here are the gentle slopes of Uamh Bha near the Perthshire village of Doune (now covered by a forest of wind turbines). My father's family used to set up camp here in the summer time of a different age.

  14. Carol's graduation   midi
  15. My daughter Carol graduated in 1999 as a mature student - an occasion which deserves a lively tune!

  16. Carol's trip to Dublin   midi   in the Riverside Collection set 3
  17. Carpe diem   midi   in RMP set 25
  18. Catherine's jig   midi
  19. Christina   midi   in RMP set 41
  20. Written for my late mother's 80th birthday, Chapter 4 recorded this as part of a set with Stirling Castle, Rachel Rae and the Braes o' Doune on the CD entitled Where Legends Remain.

  21. Clare's christening   midi
  22. All grandparents will understand the joy which comes from the arrival of a first grandchild - all the fun that children can bring to your life without the responsibility!

  23. Farewell to 2020   midi   in RMP set 28
  24. Gowan Hill   midi
  25. Written in 2013 to celebrate the midsummer week celebrations on the Gowan Hill.

  26. The gudeman o Ballengeich   midi
  27. King James V of Scotland is said to have wandered around his Kingdom in disguise. Here is a new tune to commemorate this local tradition. Ballengeich is adjacent to Stirling Castle, where James resided.

  28. Irene's tune   midi
  29. This tune was written for Irene's fiftieth birthday (Irene is my dear friend lan Scott's long suffering wife!).

  30. Jardie's jawbone   midi
  31. In the dying seconds of Scotland's magnificent victory at Parc de Princes, in February 1995, lan Jardine's cheek bone shattered under the force of an 18 stone French forward. Happily Ian was soon restored to full health to play his part in Stirling County's remarkable success story. To get the right tempo, try playing with The Boys of Blue Hill.

  32. Margaret Jane's waltz   midi   in RMP set 42
  33. Slightly inebriated   midi
  34. Members of the 'Riverside Ceilidh Band' found a tune called Plastered Again and needed another to play with it, so Peter came up with this. Lots of slurring required!

  35. Sophie Margaret's waltz   midi   in RMP set 42
  36. The stoursooker two-step   midi
  37. This tune celebrates the recovery of the Settle Inn vacuum cleaner after it had been incapacitated by a stray banjo string, no doubt cast aside during a Wednesday night session. The repeated A in the second line represents the stuttering hoover as it tried to disgorge the string!

  38. The Sunday session jig   midi
  39. Tommy and Ann   midi
  40. The late, great Tommy Quinn graced the Scottish folk scene for the best part of fifty years as a singer, musician and folk club organizer. It was Tommy who introduced me to the folk club scene in the Seventies. This tune was written on the occasion of his marriage to Ann in 1992.

  41. The Treasurer   midi
  42. For Donna Jozajtis, who was a hardworking RMP treasurer for several years.

  43. Waltz for Jo   midi
  44. Waltz for Maureen   midi
